Children’s Pool in La Jolla, California is situated in San Diego and is supposed to be a nice beach where children can play without the waves being too crazy for them. We decided to check it out thinking it was a great place for our kids to play, but when I read Yelp reviews online, I realized that the sea lions have taken over the entire area. Regardless,we decided to visit anyways since it is scenic and the kids can see some wildlife.
When we got there, parking is a bit tough but we were lucky and found a nice spot. There is some stairs that you will have to climb to get down to the actual seals, but they have now rightfully blocked it off with rope so that you cannot go right up to them.
You can also climb onto the other side of the parking lot and get to walk on the jetty rocks with railings and actually see the seals from the other side of the water where they lay lazily on rocks while the tide crashes on them. Be careful on the jetty because it is narrow, wet, and the waves can crash high enough to get you wet.
Overall, I thought it was a beautiful place to take the family to see the sea lions. The best part of course is that there is access to a VERY small beach next to the Children’s pool where children can actually play so that technically should be the children’s pool. My family had a great time and I would recommend seeing it once.
